Abstract

According to the objective of recovering the role of women in the theatrical practices that constitute the Argentine culture from the mid-twentieth century, the purpose is to rescue the trajectories of those dramatists, directors, actresses... who did not occupy the center of the national scene because they developed their activity in provinces. As for the actresses, the objective of historicizing the scenic work of these women is further complicated by the scarcity or loss of documentation in non-hegemonic theatrical fields.

This work aims to reconstitute the role played by María Delia Vargas in foundational groups of Salta theatre such as the Teatro Estudio Phersu or the Grupo de Arte Dramático, in order to contribute to the visibility of the female role in the history of local performing practices. In this sense, the strong will of Maria Delia Vargas and other women who struggled to occupy the stage stands out, in front of a heteropatriarchal imaginary that stigmatized them.

Focusing on the emblematic figure of Maria Delia Vargas, it is hoped to provide new elements for the progressive construction of a "local cultural memory" that accounts for both the plurality of artistic practices in the province -beyond folklore or poetry- as well as the relevance of women in the development of their theatre.
