Abstract

El presente artículo ofrece una introducción al tema del sistema verbal del español de Costa Rica durante la década inmediatamente posterior a la Independencia (1821). Para ello se tomó como corpus el Noticioso Universal, primer diario semanal publicado en el país, siendo este uno de los primeros textos escritos de Costa Rica, tras la introducción de la primera imprenta en el país, en la década de 1830. En este trabajo se hace hincapié en el sistema de pretérito, en la oposición pretérito perfecto simple (canté) y pretérito perfecto compuesto (he cantado), además del sistema de futuro. Además, se quiere comparar el sistema reflejado aquí con otras etapas del español de Costa Rica; a saber, con la época colonial y con la época actual. Con esto se intenta contribuir al conocimiento de esta parte gramatical del español costarricense del siglo XIX.
