Abstract

This paper develops research aimed at understanding the caranga problem for prehispanic period in the southern Andes, their behavior in the Colonial period, as well as some general aspects related to the continuity in patterns of expression of caranga today. This exploration is guided by a willingness to open a binational and interdisciplinary dialogue beatween researchers of the past and the contingent reality of indigenous peoples that coexist in very different nation states, like Chile and Bolivia.
