Abstract

The current paper is based on the analysis of criminal judiciary sources of San Miguel de Tucumán city between 1750 and 1810. Focusing on cattle stealing -the most extensive and common crime- some practices of subaltern sectors in the rural area are shown. The functioning of colonial justice in rural areas is detailes and also two ways of cattle stealing with different features are presented.
