Abstract

It is necessary to consider science as a historical and cultural product in order to understand its epistemological status. Faced with relativist positions that consider that there is no possibility of transcending the perspective of a gaze necessarily anchored in one or another culture and its conceptual baggage, we maintain that while it is undeniably true that science is also a cultural product, it is, however, much more and it stands as a knowledge of a transcultural type, that is, it transcends the local elements of any culture and has epistemic privileges that position it above any other type of knowledge.
